Assessment: Never too old to ask why

My job as an educator is to help students learn. Grades get in the way of that. Instead of focusing on learning, students focus on grades. If grades were 100% reflective of what a student learned, this wouldn't be as big of a problem (though still a problem).

However, grades are not reflective of learning. Lots of factors get in the way.  This blog will explore the ways in which grading and learning diverge, practices that negatively influence learning, and problems inherent in grades.

I will also explore and reflect upon my own practice as an educator through my attempts to separate grading from learning over the course of the 2016-2017 school year.
